All the other weeks, adding into months, I looked at the mountain wondering, often with my fellow biker from Skopje, Branko, what it’d be like to rent an enduro – trial bike – from one of the shops and go offroading.
I never did it, not least because fo discomforting contemplations of an injurz during a lonesome ride along unfamiliar paths – too risky for me.
I am sure that Branko and I are not the only to think about the high-octane adventure. Now at last there is a way out of the quandary.
The boys from the South Squad Enduro Thassos, a group of endure enthusiasts based in southern Thassos which finally decided to offer to visitors the 20 years of experience they amassed exploring every single goat path linking villages.
So, you want to ride?
Unless you ride or bring your own bike, probably the best for most is to rent an enduro from a local shop – the group will help you out to find and pick, if help is needed. If up to two people wish to go for the hardest terrain with an appropriate bike, such as the shops to not have, a rental from riders in the group will probably be possible, but shout in time. The Squad has full protective gear to rent for those who don’t have their own on the island.
Then have a pick how and where you want to be guided
Easy amateur or hard professional riding and terrain, many or fewer off-road routes, from one day to five days, Thassos has it all the boys know where it all is at. Take a look at their Facebook page, but remember, in the videos they sometimes show off their skill – it doesn’t mean that level is required for a fun ride. Beginners are just as welcome to ask for an easy guided tour.
